Salvation Army Children's Home

Salvation Army Children’s Home in Mazatlán, Mexico was founded in 1993 by the Salvation Army.  The home is unique in that the leadership is distinctly Christian; the directors were trained in seminary. Around 25 children, ages 5-16 years old, live at the home at any given time. They attend a local public school. In their spare time, the children complete chores, enjoy dancing and playing on the playground. The children eat rice, beans, tortillas, milk, vegetables and meat three times per week.  Sponsorship funds provide holistic orphan care, through resources such as a psychologist, social worker, school uniforms, and field trips. Many of the children visit relatives on the weekend, staying with family members from Friday through Sunday. Sponsorship funds are used to focus additional resources on the children who do not have family to visit on the weekends.
