Jesus in Haiti Ministries, a ministry Back2Back partners with, was started by an American missionary in 2003. The ministry focused solely on a church and school just outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, until the devastating earthquake of 2010. Among the hundreds orphaned on this day were several students from Jesus in Haiti Ministries’ school. To care for these students, JiHM opened a children’s home called the Lighthouse.
In 2013, Back2Back began a partnership with Jesus in Haiti Ministries and the Lighthouse Children’s Home. The children attend a local school, which they can walk to from the home. After school and in their spare time, the children enjoy playing basketball, soccer, card games, and reading with one another. On special occasions, typically when a group visits, the children enjoy one of their favorite activities, a trip to the beach. Most meals at the Lighthouse consist of traditional Haitian cuisine, chicken and rice. Sponsorship funds help provide well balanced meals, school fees, medical care, and housing expenses.
